Westport Farmers' Market Launches Young Shoots Kids Photo Program June 23

Westport, Conn. - Westport Farmers’ Market (WFM), in partnership with The Artists Collective of Westport and the Drew Friedman Community Arts Center, is pleased to announce the 6th annual Young Shoots Photography Contest.

Young Shoots invites three age groups of photographers to demonstrate their love for local food through the digital lens. Budding young photographers, ages 6 to 18, take pictures at WFM from June 23 through July 31, 2022, that are submitted into a friendly, age-based competition.

Photos submitted by photographers will be judged for age group awards by Anne and a panel of local artists and the public. An art opening for all Your Shoots photographers will be held Wednesday, August 23, at Gilbertie’s Front Lawn on Sylvan Avenue, where Sugar & Olives will cater.

“We are excited to have Anne Burmeister,  WFM board member and Who Grows Your Food photographer, as co-chair of this super-popular program this year,” said Lori Cochran-Dougall, executive director of WFM. “The kids will have the opportunity to work with a professional photographer as they set out to capture local food, farmers, farms, and farm products at the Market the way Anne and Ashley Skatoff did through the stunning and successful WGYF program.”

“I have been a fan of Young Shoots for years,” said Anne. “It is going to be my absolute pleasure to support and encourage the perspective and expression of these young photographers at work in the Market.”

As in previous years, age group winners and the “Fan Favorite” will receive cash prizes and an opportunity to attend an art class at MoCA of Westport.
