Westport Farmers' Market Partners with Food Rescue U.S. for New Grow-A-Row Program

Westport, Conn. - Calling all home gardeners! Have lots of lettuce? Tons of tomatoes? Endless zucchini? Westport Farmers’ Market is incorporating Grow-a-Row Westport to encourage gardeners to donate extra produce weekly to Fairfield County people in need.

Grow-A-Row Westport is a volunteer effort among gardeners and partners to grow and donate fresh, local, seasonal produce to benefit food-insecure populations in Fairfield County. Based at the Westport Community Gardens since 2020, Grow-A-Row has planted, tended, harvested, and collected nutritious donations of fresh produce and herbs—all delivered directly to agencies in need.

Last Thursday, June 23, and continuing every Thursday throughout market season, gardeners are encouraged to bring donations of fresh produce from their home gardens, CSAs, or fridges to the Westport Farmers’ Market, 50 Imperial Avenue, between 10am - 2pm.

Produce will be picked up and delivered by Food Rescue US - Fairfield County volunteers. The Bridgeport FEED Center, Fridgport, Career Resources CT, and Westport Housing Authority will receive the donations.

“We’re very excited to launch Grow-a-Row Westport at WFM,” said Lori Cochran-Dougall, executive director of Westport Farmers’ Market. “Its mission perfectly aligns with ours and we were blown away by the initial response.  Collecting tons of fresh, local produce grown by our community of shoppers for the greater Fairfield County community in need is plain awesome!”

WFM receives philanthropic support from: Abramson & Company LLC; Aitoro Appliance; Alma Mexican Food; Boxcar Cantina; Cohen and Wolf; Compass Realty, Riolo Team; Dharma Massage Therapy; Doc’s Maple; Don Memo; The Drew Friedman Community Arts Center; Gault Family Companies; Gilbertie’s Herbs & Garden Center; LeafGuard; Pause + Purpose; Pure Barre; Sugar & Olives; Terrain; Wave Hill Breads; and Wells Hill Farm.
