Fairfield Residents Unite to Fight Big Box Dog Hotel

Fairfield, CT - An application has been filed to change Fairfield's zoning regulations to allow dog daycare facilities and overnight kenneling to abut residential districts; a concept currently prohibited throughout town, according to a grassroots group calling itself The Alliance to Preserve Peaceful Fairfield Neighborhoods.

If this proposed amendment is approved, it would enable Spot On Veterinary Hospital and Hotel - a business that could house 75+ dogs a day and would include 4 outdoor dog runs - to open at 2269 Post Road (the former Hyundai dealership location next to Gruel Britannia).  This would literally put a dog kennel with outdoor play areas immediately adjacent to neighbors on Fairfield Place, Overhill Road and Sasco Hill Road.  The sound of 75+ barking dogs would not be contained by any fence the applicant constructs and would extend well beyond a currently peaceful neighborhood.

"We all have dogs and love dogs, but we are doing everything we can to stop this private business from changing the Commercial District zoning laws for all of Fairfield.  This change would not just impact our neighborhood, but all other neighborhoods surrounding this zoning which exists up and down Post Road and beyond," said Adam Goodman, one of the critics of the planned dog hotel.

More than 450 signatures have been gathered opposing the proposed zone change and dog hotel, Goodman said. He added there are two ways people can help:

1) Sign the petition!  18+ Fairfield residents only.  No need to re-sign if already signed elsewhere.

2) Show up to the January 10th public hearing @ 6:30pm.  This is the best way you can support us.  We are being told we need to fill the room.  The hearing is at the Fairfield Regional Fire School, 205 Richard White Way. That is the access road off Reef Road that you take driving to the Fairfield Solid Waste Transfer Station.
