New Paradigm Theatre receives $20,000 grant from Fairfield County’s Community Foundation.
New Paradigm Theatre [NPT] recently received a $20,000 grant from Fairfield County’s Community Foundation to support its summer educational and production programming.
Each summer NPT partners with a social justice nonprofit that reflects the theme of our shows. Through partnered activities, the NPT youth board learns about and volunteers for this partner nonprofit leading up to final performances. Youth from 8 years old through high school also have the opportunity to learn from performing professionals onstage and off in summer classes and rehearsals, which culminate in a weekend of performances.
Grants such as this, as well as individual donations received at NPT’s recent Gala, which honored Carole Demas (original Broadway “Sandy” in Grease, and Carole in “The Magic Garden”), are essential to NPT’s efforts to provide outstanding experiences to youth and adults in our community.
“This grant will help us provide salaries for professional directors, designers, teachers and actors, all of whom work diligently with our youth. In addition to this grant, all of the donors who came to our Gala on May 13th have added to our ability to accomplish our unique mission. While we love putting on a great show, we really love teaching young people how to use what they learn through the arts to become outstanding leaders,” says Kristin Huffman, NPT’s Artistic Director.
New Paradigm Theatre was founded in 2012 and has partnered with many local social justice nonprofits to shine a spotlight on their missions during their productions. Some of those include The Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk (The Little Mermaid), Kids Helping Kids (Footloose), Building One Community (West Side Story) and this year’s partner, the Wakeman Boys and Girls Club (Grease). NPT’s programs are specifically designed to address inequities in arts education and its attendant benefits in Fairfield County, due to household income and disability.
This season, with FCCF support, NPT will present Grease (Aug 18 and 19th), The NPT Annual Holiday show (Dec 9 and 10) and will partner with the Norwalk Symphony Orchestra to produce The Music Man (February 10). The FCCF grant, as well as grants from the Connecticut Department of Economic Development (Office of the Arts) and individual donors, will help NPT continue to utilize its unique partnering and teaching template in service of the Fairfield County community.
