Local CT Health Depts Collaborate to Celebrate National Health Education Week

New Haven, CT - The month of October is widely recognized for countless celebrations within healthcare and public health across the country. Since 1995, The Society for Public Health Education (SOPHE) has recognized and celebrated National Health Education Week during the third week of October. National Health Education Week, taking place October 17th- 21st, 2022, is aimed to increase awareness of major public health issues and to promote a better understanding of the role of health education and health promotion.

Following the COVID-19 pandemic, local health educators and public health professionals have met virtually to share their experiences and work together to ensure quality health and services to their community members. Members from the following health departments who are leads in these efforts include and are not limited to the Chesprocott Health District, City of Meriden Health and Human Services Department, City of Stamford Department of Health, Fairfield Health Department, Milford Health Department, Naugatuck Valley Health District, Norwalk Health Department, Quinnipiack Valley Health District, Stratford Health Department, and Trumbull Health Department.

This year during National Health Education Week, the local health organizations will share the importance of health education and promotion on social media pages. On Tuesday, October 18th, local health will be partnering with the Southern Connecticut State University (SCSU) Department of Public Health as they present “Public Health Education 101”, an event to network and meet with local public health professionals. Health educators will participate in a discussion panel to explain the different roles and responsibilities they take on while networking with attendees and answering questions to help better the understanding of the field. This event will take place on SCSU’s campus in the HHS Building, Room 301 from 4-6 pm. The event is FREE to attend and registration is highly recommended.
