New Community Youth Chorus Starting at Harvey

Katonah, NY -- Children who like to sing will have an opportunity to share their voices in a new community youth chorus program to be offered this fall at The Harvey School in Katonah.

Harvey’s Community Arts Director Vinny Alexander said the youth chorus class will be offered to elementary and middle school children and open to all who love to sing with no audition required. Alexander said Harvey music teacher Zachary Wright, who will teach the class, will conduct a vocal hearing to place each singer in the correct vocal part. Wright created a youth chorus elective for Harvey’s Cavalier Camp this summer to gauge the interest children would have in singing in a community chorus.

“Zack loves teaching music to kids and they enjoy working with him” said Alexander. “We’re pleasantly surprised about the amount of interest his summer singing class has generated and we’re excited to offer local kids a singing opportunity during the school year as part of Harvey’s community arts program,” he added.

The chorus will meet Tuesday evenings at 6:30 p.m. in the Walker Center for the Arts on the campus of The Harvey School. The first session is scheduled for Oct. 3. The tuition is $100 for the 10-week class that will end with a final performance.

Parents interested in learning more should contact Vinny Alexander at 914-232-3161, ext. 161, or email him at valexander@harveyschool.org
