Norma Pfriem Breast Center Receives $70,540 Grant from Pink Aid

FAIRFIELD, CT – The Norma Pfriem Breast Center will continue to provide breast cancer screening programs and support services to patients in need, thanks to a grant of $70,540 from Pink Aid. This year, approximately 3,000 Connecticut women will be diagnosed with breast cancer. Programs such as those at the Norma Pfriem Breast Center are vital to beating breast cancer locally.

In addition to providing financial assistance for screening and diagnostic services, the grant for $70,540 will help medically underserved women gain access to support services, such as support groups and counseling.

Pink Aid was formed specifically to “fund the efforts of organizations that provide compassionate care so women can go through treatment with the proper care and dignity.”

“These funds will provide much needed services to women without health insurance who cannot pay for screening and diagnostic tests and procedures on their own,” says Donna Twist, PhD, the Breast Center’s Executive Director.  “We are extremely grateful to Pink Aid for their continued support of our programs.”

Since 1999, the Norma Pfriem Breast Center has served over 35,000 women.  Each year the NPBC provides nearly 1,400 uninsured and underinsured women with financial assistance for patient care services and educates over 5,000 women and girls about breast cancer risk.  Connecticut has one of the highest rates of breast cancer incidence in the country.  The Norma Pfriem Breast Center works to reduce the impact of the disease on our community.

Part of Bridgeport Hospital and Yale New Haven Health, the Norma Pfriem Breast Center has served more than 30,000 women and their families since it was established in 1999.   One of only 300 sites accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), the Center provides a wide range of diagnostic care and treatment at its Bridgeport Hospital, Trumbull and Fairfield locations, including medical oncology, surgical and chemotherapy services, plastic surgery, mammography and radiation therapy, and genetic risk assessment as well as opportunities to participate in clinical trials.  The Breast Center also provides comprehensive women’s wellness services, including nutrition counseling, massage and Reiki therapy, wig and prosthesis fitting, counseling, yoga, Pilates, naturopathic medicine, and other patient support activities.  The Center is a member of the prestigious National Consortium of Breast Care Centers.  For more information call 203-255-5300 or visit the Center on the web at www.bridgeporthospital.org/cancer/breast.
