WAC Announces Needs-Based Art Scholarships

Westport, CT - Through the generosity of the Drew Friedman Community Arts Center Foundation (DFCAC), the Westport Arts Center announces new needs-based art scholarships available to students in Westport, Connecticut.

One needs-based scholarship in the amount of $5,000 will be awarded to an outgoing high school senior who will be attending an arts-based college program in Fall 2018.  Students can apply by completing an application on Westport Arts Center’s website: www.westportartscenter.org/education/scholarships.  Applications for the high school scholarship must be received by April 30, 2018.

Secondly, scholarships are available for individual weeks of the Westport Arts Center’s Summer Camp program by applying through the Town of Westport’s Department of Human Services.  Westport Arts Center’s Summer Camp features week-long workshops for ages 4-12, with morning sessions dedicated to ages 4-7 and afternoon sessions designed for ages 8-12.  Themed weeks range from painting to clay to three-dimensional art.

Amanda Innes, Executive Director of the Westport Arts Center, stated, "We look forward to collaborating with the Drew Friedman Community Arts Center Foundation to deliver outstanding arts opportunities to the community.  The Foundation's mission to fund art classes and activities for underserved students and young adults is perfectly aligned with the work we do at the Westport Arts Center."

Scholarship applicants must demonstrate financial need. To initiate the process for either the high school or summer camp scholarship opportunity, recipients must contact the Town of Westport’s Department of Human Services at 203-341-1050 to make an appointment for scholarship consideration.   Questions should be directed to Patty Haberstroh with the Town of Westport’s Department of Human Services: at hsyouth@westportct.gov.
