Stamford Downtown, CT – Beginning in June, visitors to Stamford Downtown may be startled by the addition of bronze sculptures so life-like and convincing in appearance that they may be mistaken for actual human beings. These sculptures are the work of American artist Seward Johnson, whose talents will be showcased in the exhibition entitled: UC Funds presents Timeless – The Works of Seward Johnson in Stamford Downtown, June through August, 2018.
The exhibition will feature one monumental and 35 life-size sculptures representing two of Johnson’s collections: Celebrating the Familiar and Icons Revisited. Each sculpture reflects the realism and meticulous attention to detail that are the hallmark of Johnson’s work.
The highlight of this exhibit is the monumentally sized sculpture of Marilyn Monroe.Forever Marilyn, sponsored by Avon Theatre Film Center, will be on display in Latham Park on Bedford Street. Forever Marilyn is 26 feet tall and weighs 30,000 pounds. She should turn heads as well as start conversations. Marilyn will be installed in Latham Park beginning the morning of June 4. The sculpture itself, as well as the installation process, will be visually stunning and will present an opportunity for spectacular television and still photos when the sculpture arrives and it is hoisted via crane into position.
