STAMFORD, Conn. – Thirty-five life-size sculptures and one monumental bronze sculpture will be positioned in their new places of residence in Stamford Downtown for the summer of 2018. These sculptures are part of the Stamford Downtown’s outdoor summer sculpture exhibit, UC Funds presents Timeless – the Works of Seward Johnson in Stamford Downtown.
The exhibition will feature sculptures representing two of Johnson’s collections: Celebrating the Familiar and Icons Revisited. Each sculpture reflects the realism and meticulous attention to detail that are the hallmark of Johnson’s work.
Installation of the 35 life-size sculptures will begin on Wednesday, May 30 and will continue through Friday, June 1 from 5 am to 9 am throughout Stamford Downtown. It will take the city traffic division team, Stamford Downtown events team, two fork-lifts and a loader truck to install them. Their installation is an event in itself and is more than likely to draw a crowd with very curious onlookers as each piece is hoisted from the holding area and transported via an open-air truck to its location amid ongoing activity. A list of the sculptures is attached.
On June 6, Stamford Downtown will host an opening reception for UC Funds presents Timeless – the Works of Seward Johnson, the official kickoff celebration and opportunity for sponsors and the public to meet the artist, Seward Johnson. The party will take place at 5:30pm at the Palace at 61 Atlantic Street in Stamford, CT.
