SHU Ranked One of the Best by U.S. News & World Report

FAIRFIELD, Conn.— Sacred Heart University was once again included in U.S.News & World Report’s Best Colleges guidebook as one of the best universities in the North. Additionally, the publication named SHU in three other lists: best colleges for veterans in the North, best value schools in the North and best undergraduate business programs nationally.

“No survey or ranking can fully measure the educational excellence Sacred Heart University delivers day in and day out. U.S.News does not necessarily measure our incredible growth in programs, facilities and award-winning faculty,” said SHU President John J. Petillo. “We appreciate U.S.News & World Report recognizing Sacred Heart as one of the best universities in the North. In addition, to be singled out as a best college for veterans and best value in the North as well as best undergraduate business program nationally is a testament to the educational excellence we provide and our dedication to student success.”

To be included in the best colleges of veterans listing, SHU had to meet certain criteria such as enroll a minimum of 20 veterans and active service members for a second consecutive year. Along with reaching specific thresholds, SHU does much to support its student-veterans and active military. The Office of Veteran Student Affairs assists students in making their transition to SHU seamless. The Veterans Resource Center ensures veterans, military students and their families and dependents are connected to the resources necessary for a successful and enriching college experience.

“We are committed to their needs and encourage student-veterans to come to our office if they have any problems,” said Kathy Dilks, director of veteran affairs. “We are pleased our efforts are being recognized, but continue to make sure we are doing all we can for this student population.”

Results of the best undergraduate business program ranking were based solely on surveys completed by business school deans and senior faculty. Students enrolled in SHU’s Jack Welch College of Business choose from several majors and minors that will ultimately allow them to reach their career goals. From marketing to sports management to hospitality, resort and tourism management, there’s something for everyone. With a diverse faculty with impressive professional backgrounds, students learn from professors who have real-world experience and skills. Students graduate with an internship under their belts and a good grasp of what to expect in the business world.

Sacred Heart also earned recognition from The Princeton Review last month. The publication included SHU in its guidebook, The Best 384 Colleges and placed SHU among its top 20 colleges for “Happiest Students” and “Students Most Engaged in Community Service.”

About Sacred Heart University

As the second-largest independent Catholic university in New England, and one of the fastest-growing in the U.S., Sacred Heart University is a national leader in shaping higher education for the 21st century. SHU offers more than 80 undergraduate, graduate, doctoral and certificate programs on its Fairfield, Conn., campus, which is located about an hour from Manhattan and 2.5 hours from Boston. Sacred Heart also has satellites in Connecticut, Luxembourg and Ireland. More than 8,500 students attend the University’s eight colleges and schools: Arts & Sciences; Communication, Media & the Arts; Computer Science & Engineering; Health Professions; the Isabelle Farrington College of Education; the Jack Welch College of Business; Nursing; and St. Vincent’s College. Sacred Heart is rooted in the rich Catholic intellectual tradition and the liberal arts, yet at the same time develops students to be forward thinkers who enact change—in their own lives and professions and in their communities. A spirit of service, entrepreneurship and social justice is the essence of who we are and can be seen inside and outside the classroom as students learn how to make a difference far beyond Fairfield. The Princeton Review includes SHU in its Best 384 Colleges–2019 Edition, “Best in the Northeast” and Best 267 Business Schools–2018 Edition. It also placed SHU on its lists for “Happiest Students” and “Most Engaged in Community Service,” each of which comprises only 20 U.S. schools. Sacred Heart has a Division I athletics program. www.sacredheart.edu
