LAKEVILLE, Conn. — ime Rock Park’s Historic Festival 36, held over Labor Day Weekend (Aug. 30 - Sept. 3, 2018), has been named a finalist for the “Motorsport Event of the Year” by the International Historic Motoring Awards (IMHA), presented in association with Octanemagazine and EFG Private Bank. The winner of this and 18 additional categories will be announced at an awards ceremony in London on Oct. 25, 2018.
The Festival is competing against four other annual events that made the finals for the category: the Goodwood Festival of Speed held in England; Les Grandes Heures Automobiles held in France; Belgium’s Zoute Grand Prix; and France’s Le Mans Classic.
“We are absolutely delighted that the Lime Rock Historic Festival has been shortlisted for this international recognition,” said Murray Smith, Historic Festival Chairman, who noted this was the Festival’s third nomination for the honor. “This is among the most prestigious awards celebrating outstanding achievements in motorsport management and presentation, and the level of competition in this category is indication enough of the quality of the festival.”
The Historic Festival is the only North American classic car race and concours held on the same race track. This year’s event brought together one of the largest gatherings of historic Bugatti vehicles in North America with more than 60 of the featured marques on site. Over five days, the event combines 32 races with more than 200 cars competing in eight classes, a concours d’Elegance with more than 200 invited cars, the Gathering of the Marques featuring affinity car clubs and groups showcasing more than 800 cars along the length of the track.
Among the featured cars at the event were five belonging to Peter Mullin, the Festival’s Honored Collector and Guest, including his extraordinary Type 57SC Atlantic Coupe. Also in the show was the 57G “Tank” from Philadelphia’s Simeone Foundation Automotive Museum that won the 1937 Le Mans 24 Hour race, and the Type 57SC Gangloff Convertible belonging to Ralph Lauren, which won Best in Show honors at the Festival’s Concours d’ Elegance.
