Why Small Businesses Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!

You're IT Tami Smight Interiors!

Three Questions with Tami Smight, owner of Tami Smight Interiors.

Why did you start your business?

It comes down to helping people. It thrills me to no end to help express my client’s idea of a beautiful home. After all, why do you work so hard if not to return to a safe haven to replenish and renew your spirit and connect with loved ones? Home is where we celebrate birthdays and holidays, where we raise our children and create memories. That is my highest calling as a designer, to create a beautiful and functional space that my client anticipates returning to at the end of the day. I believe you deserve a home which will rise up to meet when you walk in the door.

What is your best selling product/service?

Custom window treatments are both functional and enhance the beauty of a home. However, designing and creating draperies is more than matching fabrics to your furniture.  Pattern and texture of the curtains, sheers, or Roman shades dictate how the fabric will drape.   When appropriate I can layer with bamboo shades, blinds, shutters and valances.

Added privacy and light control are equally important to a well-dressed window.  As a Hunter Douglas dealer, I am knowledgeable in the full line of window blinds, shutters and shades.

My professional workrooms fabricate your curtains and shades according to my high standards, so you can trust the finished product will be unique and stunning.

How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?

It really takes a team to execute a design created for my client’s unique home.  From painters to tile contractors, landscapers, upholsterers, flooring contractors, wallpaper hangers, to name a few.  I always turn to the advice to my “team of experts” when I need to learn about the newest flooring options or paint formulas with no VOCs etc.  My philosophy is to hire locally, support Fairfield County business owners.
