Healing through Nature: Gentle Yoga and Meditation (Mondays Dec. 2, 9, 16, 2019; 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.)
Healing through Nature classes, incorporating the benefits of yoga and meditation, meet Mondays, through Dec. 16, 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at Connecticut Audubon’s Birdcraft Museum and Sanctuary, 314 Unquowa Rd. in Fairfield. Explore breathing techniques, relaxation tools, yoga postures and meditations to build a personal connection between nature, and body, mind and spirit. CAS Members $20/class; non-members $25/class. Holiday Drop and Shop at Connecticut Audubon’s Birdcraft Museum, (Thursday, Dec. 5, 6 to 9 p.m.)  *Note: this is offered in conjunction with the Town of Fairfield’s annual “Holiday Shop and Stroll” event.
Parents can enjoy leisure shopping time while supporting Fairfield’s downtown Holiday Shop and Stroll on Thursday, Dec. 5, from 6 to 9 p.m. While you shop, let Connecticut Audubon entertain your children at our “Holiday Drop and Shop,” for ages 4 to 10, at our Birdcraft location, 314 Unquowa Road. Children can be dropped off any time during the three-hour town event, and have fun playing nature-related games, making indoor s’mores, getting creative with crafts and doing entertaining science experiments. CAS Members $15/child; non-members $20/child. Celebrating Eco-Friendly Holidays (Friday, Dec. 6, 11 a.m. to noon)
Holidays can be a time of excess and consumption, but there are ways to minimize your environmental impact while still maximizing your holiday cheer. Join Connecticut Audubon’s Director of Education Michelle Eckman, on Friday, Dec. 6, 11 a.m. to noon, at BD Provisions, 1215 Post Road in Fairfield. Find out how your holiday season can be eco-friendly and guilt-free with simple shifts in your usual holiday planning, prepping and celebrating. Free program. Adults only. December Bird Seed Sale (Saturday, Dec. 7, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.)
Premium bird seed, at 20% off is on the menu during the December 7 sale at Connecticut Audubon’s Center at Fairfield Nature Store, 2325 Burr St. All seed, in all sizes, will be offered. It’s a great time to stock up for the coldest weather months. Most birds wintering in Connecticut are seed eaters. Filling your feeders helps provide needed calories and nourishment as other food becomes scarce. The Center at Fairfield Nature Store, open 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., is also a great place for local holiday shopping while supporting environmental education and conservation programs. Exploration of Plants (Saturday, Dec. 7, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.)
Join botanist and naturalist Jim Cortina at Connecticut Audubon in Fairfield, Saturday, Dec. 7, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., for a look at interesting plants and other wonders of nature to be found on a walk in the woods. Program begins with a classroom discussion and examination of specimens including herbaceous plants, woody shrubs, galls and pods. Following a lunch break, take a guided walk to see more in the wildlife sanctuary. Adults only. Please bring your lunch. Meets at the CAS Center at Fairfield, 2325 Burr Street. Wednesday Noon Walks (Wednesday, Dec. 11, Noon)
Take a break from holiday preparations and get outside for a guided walk at noon, on Wednesday, Dec. 11 at Connecticut Audubon’s Center at Fairfield, 2325 Burr St. Enjoy exercise, good company and fresh air in the Larsen Wildlife Sanctuary. Moderate pace on trails with raised boardwalks and bridges that give access to the varied landscape, forest and freshwater wetland ecosystems. CAS Members $7; non-members $10. Make an Edible Bird House Ornament (Saturday, Dec. 14, 1 to 2:30 p.m.)
Make a gift for both you and the birds at Connecticut Audubon’s Center at Fairfield, Saturday, Dec. 14, 1 to 2:30 p.m. Using natural ingredients like seeds and nuts, we’ll decorate and transform a small wooden birdhouse into a creative, eco-friendly ornament for your holiday tree indoors. When the decorations are put away, place the ornament outside and watch as birds stop by to enjoy nibbling at the walls. All materials are non-toxic. For adults and children ages 12+. Allergy note: peanuts and tree nuts will be used. Meets at 2325 Burr St. CAS Members $15; non-members: $20. Holiday Shopping at the Nature Store (Open Mondays through Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.)
The Center at Fairfield Nature Store on Burr Street offers many thoughtful, unique gifts for the nature enthusiasts on your list. In addition to birdfeeders and accessories, find bird-themed ornaments, decorative items, cards, educational books and toys, and limited edition John James Audubon Birds of America prints. Winter Break Nature Camp at Connecticut Audubon (Monday, Dec. 23; Thursday, Dec. 26; and Friday, Dec. 27, 10 a.m.to 1:30 p.m.)
How do plants and animals survive all winter? Who is sleeping and who is awake? Get these answers and more at Winter Break Nature Camp, offered at Connecticut Audubon’s Center at Fairfield, Monday, Dec. 23, Thursday, Dec. 26 and Friday, Dec. 27, from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Come for one, two or all three days to learn about the natural world in winter. Includes hands-on science experiments, crafts and outdoor explorations. For ages 4-8. CAS Members $50, non-members $60.
