Why Small Businesses Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!

You're IT Coastal Sol Yoga!

Three questions with Kate Pollock and Carly Walker, Co-founders of Coastal Sol Yoga.

Why did you start your business?

We started our business to bring yoga into children’s lives. Kids Yoga is not like a typical adult yoga class but kids do practice and master yoga poses while participating in our fun and engaging class. Our hope is that kids will take this practice of moving and breathing with them for life! And that pregnant women and new moms will benefit from the physical, mental and spiritual practice - as well as build community in a time when connection is essential for women.

Best selling product or service?

Our best selling service is our preschool yoga class. All ages love our classes but preschoolers can’t wait to get into our yoga routine. Birthday parties are a big hit! We have a beautiful space. It’s a nice place for parents to relax while we handle all the birthday fun.

Do you use local businesses to support your business?

We try to always shop local and support our small businesses. All of our locally run restaurants like Jesup Hall, The Cottage, and Shearwater Coffee are outstanding. Small grocery stores like Double L market with organic produce are exceptional. Fleet Feet is a great store for athletes. We love all of the local design stores, especially Tusk.  And for thoughtful and unique gifts the Beehive in Fairfield is amazing. The Pantry in Fairfield is our go-to for catering.
