Southport, CT - Wakeman Boys & Girls club is excited to announce they are reopening on June 29 for their summer camp season. Both the Southport Clubhouse in Southport and the Smilow-Burroughs Clubhouse in Bridgeport will run their day camps from June 29-August 14, with week-long sessions available. Camp is open to members of Wakeman Boys & Girls Club and memberships for the current program year can be purchased for a prorated fee.
While camp will look different than past years and the original 2020 camp plan, campers can still expect to see the many familiar faces of positive role models who are focused on providing a camp experience full of fun, learning and making new friends the “Wakeman way”! Sabrina Smeltz, Wakeman CEO, emphasizes, “Health of members and staff is our number one priority. Our camp follows summer camp regulations of the CT Office of Early Childhood (OEC) while also consulting with the Fairfield Health Department, CT Alliance of Boys & Girls Clubs, Boys & Girls Clubs of America, along with other health, first responder and youth development professionals.”
In addition to enhanced sanitizing protocol for staff, campers, and the facilities, small groups of campers will have a dedicated “base” room for activities, with schedules designed to avoid multi-group interaction. Both Clubhouses are air-conditioned, while tent accommodations will allow many passive activities to take place outdoors.
