Young Shoots Photography Contest Gets Under Way at Westport Farmers’ Market

Westport, Conn.— Westport Farmers’ Market (WFM), in partnership with The Artists Collective of Westport and Drew Friedman Community Arts Center, is pleased to announce the 5th annual Young Shoots Photography Contest. Each year budding young photographers, ages 8 to 18, take pictures at WFM to be submitted into a friendly, age-based competition.

“Young Shoots invites three age groups of photographers to demonstrate their love for local food through the digital lens,” said Lori Cochran-Dougall, executive director of WFM. “Each year the kids get better and more creative with their vision of local food and farmers. It’s one of my very favorite programs!”

Photos submitted by photographers 8- to 10-years-old; 11- to 14-years-old; and 15- to 18-years-old will be judged by a panel of local artists and the public. The contest begins on June 10 and the closing date for submissions is July 18. An art opening will be held for the participants and their families in August on the Gilbertie’s Front Lawn on Sylvan Avenue, where Sugar & Olives will cater.

"Kudos to WFM for cultivating and celebrating these young photographers. It is inspiring to watch the new crop of talent emerge and blossom each year, thanks to this great initiative” said Miggs Burrough

Being a judged competition, winners will receive cash prizes coupled with surprise swag and special memberships to local art organizations.

Calling all shutterbugs to get their creative juices flowing, begin shooting at WFM on June 10, and submit their best images to youngshoots2021.artcall.org.
