SHU Introduces Innovation Mgmt for MBA Program

FAIRFIELD, Conn.—Sacred Heart University’s Jack Welch College of Business & Technology (WCBT) is adding an innovation management concentration to its master’s in business administration (MBA) program starting this July.

“This concentration is focused on the application of technology in business rather than teaching technology as a separate function,” said Anthony Macari, clinical assistant professor of management and MBA director at the WCBT. “As our economy continues to go through digital transformation, every aspect of marketing, supply chain, finance and accounting is impacted by the ability to seamlessly transform the customer experience on a daily basis through technology.”

Students enrolled in this course of study will take three innovation-based courses:

  • Technology-based business solutions and innovation will focus on the intersection of information technology and business. Students will develop a basic understanding of modern technologies such as cloud computing, blockchain, and artificial intelligence  with an emphasis on how businesses leverage these technologies to create new customer experiences, improve operational efficiencies and develop new business models.
  • Applied innovation management focuses on the innovation life cycle and will use case studies from practitioners in the field.
  • Commercializing technical innovations examines the branding, promotional, sales and marketing challenges that firms introducing an innovative technology must recognize and address to avoid presenting something that does not meet commercial expectations.

The courses will be taught by seasoned professionals with decades of business experience at some of the largest corporations in the world. These instructors are business executives who developed and managed major technological solutions to business problems and will be able to share their insights with students.
