Why Small Businesses Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!

You're IT Michelle Gurner Photography & Design!

Four questions with Michelle Gurner, founder of Michelle Gurner Photography & Design.

Why did you start your business?

I was a mom of two small boys and trying to figure out how I was going to go back to work with a newborn and a toddler at home. I decided this would be the right time to try turning my hobby into a business.

What is your best-selling product/service?

Events. I love doing events. I like being part of the family's big milestone moments.

How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?

I try to support local businesses as much as possible through photography for their social media, merchandise, and events.

Have you "reimagined" your small business?

I was very focused on family portraits when I first started and have expanded my services to product photography, headshots, events, and other things to grow my business.

Michelle would like to nominate Custom Cookies by Marina in Fairfield to be featured next - "She's an incredibly talented local teen who does absolutely amazing work!"
