Why Small Businesses Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!

You're IT Alchemy, The Salon!

Four questions with Imogene Wilson, founder of Alchemy, The Salon.

Why did you start your business?

While I do believe there are a large number of amazing hairdressers in our town, with a background in the business, I felt that there was a gap between being a good hairdresser and being a good business owner, and having the two really connect.

As the owner, I try to lead and coach my staff instead of "being the boss," and make personal connections with every single one of the guests that enter our salon, as well as offering premium experiences that you won't find anywhere else in town!

What is your best-selling product/service?

At Alchemy, our best-selling services are custom color services, such as balayage, balayage, baby lights, etc. We strive to personalize services for each of our clients to create healthy, beautiful, natural-looking colors for the women of Fairfield County and beyond.

How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?

We love supporting our local businesses! We have custom flowers delivered to us biweekly by The Fluerista, event koozies created by Puddle Bear Clothing, Alchemy merchandise created by Signature 22 Printhouse, and custom decals by Everything Labeled!

Have you "reimagined" your small business?

Alchemy has grown and evolved many times over its lifespan of seven years. We are currently in our third and final location, which is truly a rare gem. I wouldn't change how anything has happened over the course of my time in business, even though COVID we have thrived. I am very blessed to have an unbelievable team, and we are incredibly grateful to Fairfield for continuing to support our female-owned business!

Imogene would like to nominate Tequila Revolucion to be featured next!
