Why Small Businesses Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!

You're IT, Hollis Taggart!

Three questions with Paul Efstathiou, Director of Contemporary Art at Hollis Taggart.

Why did you start your business?

With more than 40 years of experience, Hollis Taggart is widely recognized by collectors and curators for its leadership, expertise, and openness, on matters of art history, and market trends and opportunities. The gallery’s flagship location is in Chelsea, New York City.

In August 2020 our Director of Contemporary, Paul Efstathiou, who has lived in Southport with his young family for over seven years, spearheaded our expansion recognizing the growing influx of new arrivals to Fairfield County as well the opportunity to serve our existing clients in the area. More importantly, while galleries were not open to visitors in New York City, we saw the chance to provide a space to exhibit our growing contemporary roster and to showcase our Post-War inventory.

As the only art gallery in Fairfield County with headquarters in New York City and with more than 40 years of experience, we are uniquely positioned to cater to our clients and provide scholarly exhibitions that provide insights into the Contemporary and Post-War markets.

What is your best-selling product/service?

We offer paintings, works on paper, and sculptures by established and mid-career contemporary artists from all over the world, and artists working throughout the twentieth century. To date in Southport, we have held nine carefully curated exhibitions appealing to a broad range of interests and tastes. Also, we showcase our roster of artists to wider audiences through our involvement with several national and international art fairs.

In addition, the gallery advises private collectors, corporations, and museums on acquisitions and assists its clients in the development of their personal collections. We welcome all inquiries from collectors who may wish to sell or consign works of art or estates.

Have you "reimagined" your small business?

As mentioned above, our expansion into Southport, CT was a “reimagination”. The growth provided us a gallery space to exhibit our artists’ works and continue to welcome clients in person. As we continue to grow our audience in the surrounding areas, we are engaging with the community, providing school and community group tours, and participating in local events (like the upcoming Southport Village Christmas Walk in Southport). Also, we offer space for events for local organizations.
