Why Small Businesses Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!

You're IT Code Ninjas!

Three questions with Laura Finn, Center Director at Code Ninjas.

Why did you start your business?

I have been fascinated by computers since I was in high school and got my master's in Computer Science. I worked for major companies in CT. Always been a great proponent of STEM, I couldn’t find a good program for my daughter. I researched and found Code Ninjas – a Franchise headquartered in Houston, TX.

Immediately, I knew this is exactly what I wanted to do. It combined all my passions – computer programming, shaping young minds, and being a small business owner. I jumped right into it and have not looked back since!

What is your best-selling product/service?

Code Ninjas offers a variety of classes to children aged 5-14. Our flagship program runs throughout the year, teaching the kids computer programming via building video games. How fun is that? We are the only program that offers a comprehensive curriculum building a strong foundation- from basic programming to ultimately building an app to be published to the app store!

We also offer a variety of summer camps and day camps during school closure. Our Minecraft and Roblox clubs are the most popular and get sold out almost immediately. To learn about all other programs, join our mailing list by clicking here.

Have you "reimagined" your small business?

The last couple of years of dealing with the pandemic has definitely forced us (in a positive way) to be creative and reimagine our business and services. We have a virtual/online presence to keep kids engaged from their homes safely while providing the opportunity for them to safely socialize in the online world. This has proven to be a welcome relief to parents who struggle to keep kids engaged and learning while at home.

We have continued to offer virtual sessions as an option to parents though most of our Ninjas enjoy in-person interaction with sensei and fellow ninjas. For details on our private and online offerings, click here.

Laura would like to nominate BD Provisions Fairfield to be featured next!
