Team Woofgang Receives Grant for Autism

BRIDGEPORT, CT - Team Woofgang & Co. is thrilled to announce it has been awarded a $10,000 grant from The Doug Flutie, Jr. Foundation for Autism. These funds will help Team Woofgang continue to provide critical support to individuals on the autism spectrum by providing vocational training and personalized support.

Team Woofgang & Co. began in 2017 with the mission to provide vocational training and job skills development to adults with disabilities, while educating the community about the need for increased job opportunities for these individuals. The non-profit achieves its mission principally through the utilization of producing and selling dog treats and other hand-made novelty items which supports the dual curriculum of production and retail learning opportunities. Since its beginning, Team Woofgang has stayed focused on empowering those with physical, intellectual & developmental disabilities through two curricula tailored to the unique abilities of each individual. The training is provided at no cost to the participant or their families, so the support of individuals, corporations, and foundations such as The Doug Flutie, Jr. Foundation is integral to the success of the organization.

“For an idea that began just four years ago, it is wonderful for Team Woofgang & Co. to be recognized by an organization like The Doug Flutie, Jr. Foundation,” remarked Amiee Turner, Executive Director for Team Woofgang & Co. “This very generous grant is not only an exciting recognition of the work that we do, but it will allow us to expand our production capacity and fine tune our curriculum to better serve a broad range of individuals with disabilities including those on the autism spectrum.”

“The Flutie Foundation Signature Grants help our partner agencies address a variety of significant needs in the autism community,” says Nick Savarese, Executive Director of The Doug Flutie, Jr. Foundation for Autism. “Programs like these are helping people on the autism spectrum live life to the fullest and we are proud to support their efforts.”

The Doug Flutie Foundation, Jr. Foundation for Autism, based in Framingham, MA, awards grants annually through a competitive application and review process. The signature grants that the Flutie Foundation distributed this year support traditionally under-served, under-funded, culturally diverse communities reflected in the Foundation’s areas of interest: providing a path for educational and vocational skills, supporting recreational and active lifestyles, and ensuring the people with autism are safe, supported and informed.
