Why Small Businesses Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!

You're IT Frescobene Foods!

Three questions with Lisa Maute, a partner at Frescobene Foods.

Why did you start your business?

Growing up in our Italian families, we learned early on the importance of spending quality time with our families, and that centered around the table enjoying delicious homemade food. But as busy moms, we found that harder and harder to do. We knew there had to be a better way to get a delicious meal on the table without spending hours in the kitchen. We always froze our sauces, but even that wasn’t as convenient as we wanted until we decided to freeze them in BPA-free “heat & serve” pouches.

We still use the same high-quality ingredients we use at home, cook them low and slow and freeze them to maintain peak freshness and retain key nutrients and minerals. There are no added sugars or preservatives and they are all certified gluten-free. And they are not just for pasta, we have created so many mouthwatering recipes, from appetizers to entrees and everything in between, that take only minutes to prepare, giving us all more quality time to spend with our family and friends.

What is your best-selling product/service?

Our Sofi™award winning Sausage Ragu is our best-seller, and for good reason! Made with imported San Marzano tomatoes, custom-made sweet Italian sausage, Parmigiano Reggiano, and red wine, just to name a few. One bite will have you sold!

How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?

We work very closely with Eat Well Today, a frozen food distributor who warehouses our sauces, distributes, and fulfills our e-commerce orders. We support Operation Hope, a local shelter and food pantry, by preparing and donating meals as well as sauces to their food pantry. We also work with Knight, Rolleri & Sheppard for our accounting needs. And our sauces are sold at the Pantry and ShopRite (Fairfield).

Lisa and her team would like to nominate Joe McCoppin from Eat Well today to be featured next!
