Why Small Businesses Matter
Shop small, do big things for your community
Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!
You're IT Bonkers Cupcakes!
Four questions with Kris Stevens, founder of Bonkers Cupcakes.
Why did you start your business?
Bonkers Cupcakes was started by father and son team Kris and Michael Stevens. Kris retired after spending a career in finance and tech. Kris was “bad at retirement” though, having too much time on his hands and too much energy. Mike studied physics and is a talented software developer.
Kris and Mike previously worked together and during the pandemic thought about ways they might do so again. Both loved the idea of making something tangible and both love baking. The idea for Bonkers hatched from that thought process.
What is your best-selling product/service?
Cupcakes! But more specifically we sell a lot of salted caramel cupcakes. Kris likes them on vanilla cupcakes, and Mike prefers them on banana cupcakes.
How many local businesses do you use to support your business (products and services) and can you name them?
- The Plastic Factory from Bridgeport
- Globe Equipment from Bridgeport
- Minute Man Press from Fairfield
- Hartford Healthcare Amphitheater
- Beauty Home Improvement from Norwalk
And we’re not sure whether this count but the people at Home Depot in Fairfield and Floor and Decor in Fairfield were all fantastic to work with while we were building our store.
And the folks at FedEx Office in Fairfield are amazing!
Have you "reimagined" your small business?
It’s always been part of the plan but we’re about to launch our “Bonkers Car” which will be loaded with treats and sent out into the world nightly. Look for the announcement and be ready to get our app from the various App Stores and satisfy those late-night cravings!
HamletHub thanks Fairfield County Bank for making our Why Small Businesses Matter series possible!
