Why Small Businesses Matter

Shop small, do big things for your community

Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!

You're IT Kearns Marketing Group!

Three questions with James Kearns, founder of Kearns Marketing Group.

Why did you start your business?

There are two main reasons that I started Kearns Marketing Group. The first is that I had always been attracted to the idea of working for myself. I wanted the excitement of fully controlling my success, and have no limitations on where I could go, or what I could do. The second reason was that I was laid off in 2020 at the start of the pandemic, and through word of mouth, I fell into helping several small businesses make it through those tough times. Eventually, I had enough clients that it made sense to start a company.

What is your best-selling product/service?

Right now my best-selling service is digital and social media advertising. It is low-cost and scalable with high ROI, which my clients love.

Have you "reimagined" your small business?

Coming from a traditional business setting sitting behind a desk in an office, working completely remotely, and traveling around the state to visit my clients has forced me to reimagine my "office" setup. One example is that I have a small desk in my car so that on a day when I am visiting clients I can go from meeting one in person to servicing another virtually back to back without missing a beat!

James would like to nominate Sammy's Southport Pizza to be featured next!
