Fairfield to Hold Public Hearing for Input on Projects for CDBG Funding

Fairfield, CT - The Town's Community and Economic Development Department, in accordance with its Citizen Participation Plan, will hold a public hearing to solicit citizen input on prospective projects for funding under the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) for Program Year 44.

The public hearing will be held on Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. in the 2nd Floor Conference Room in Old Town Hall, 611 Old Post Road in Fairfield. Program Year 44 begins October 1, 2018 and ends September 30, 2019.

The Town of Fairfield has not received notice to date of its CDBG allocation for the upcoming PY 44 program year. Given current fiscal realities and the CDBG funding trend in the last few years, the Community and Economic Development Department does not anticipate an increase in its present grant of $460,120. The Community and Economic Development office intends to use the current year’s grant as the baseline for planning purposes from which adjustments will be made as additional information becomes available.

The Office of Community and Economic Development seeks the public’s input on the types of projects and activities it should include within its Action Plan for Program Year 44 that will meet the Town's identified housing and priority non-housing community development needs.

These projects may include: public improvements; public facilities; public services; and economic development activities. Citizens and representatives of public or private organizations may present a proposed project or public service activity, or discuss program performance or any other aspects of the program at this public hearing.

The Town formally solicits project proposals once a year in conjunction with its CDBG planning and budgeting process. To be considered for CDBG funding, projects must be eligible to receive assistance under federal guidelines and meet one of three broad national objectives: (1) benefit persons or areas of low/moderate income (2) eliminate conditions of slums and/or blight or (3) meet an urgent need within the community.

To obtain applications for specific proposals and ask questions regarding the program, please contact the Office of Community and Economic Development, 611 Old Post Road, Fairfield, CT, 06824, (203) 256-3120. All proposals received by March 16, 2018 and determined to be in conformance with CDBG regulations, shall be considered.

Any individual with a disability, who needs special assistance to participate in the meeting, including access to TDD, should contact the ADA Coordinator, Eileen Kennelly, at 203 256-3077, five (5) days before the meeting if possible.
