Project Service LLC, which has invested in and operates all 23 Service Plazas located on I-95, I-395 and the Merritt Parkway, had reached out to the First Selectman’s Office in late November inquiring about any local organizations it could donate to during the holiday season as a way to show its appreciation for its neighbors.
Upon First Selectman Tetreau suggesting that each of the town’s American Legions — George Alfred Smith, CT Post 74 on Reef Road, and Lt. Owen Fish Memorial, CT Post 143 on Stratfield Road — be considered, Project Service LLC enthusiastically responded that it would be delighted to present a check to both veteran’s groups.
A checks presentation ceremony was held on Tuesday, Dec. 18 at the George Alfred Smith, CT Post 74 on Reef Road in Fairfield. In attendance were First Selectman Mike Tetreau; Michael A. Jones, CEO of Project Service, LLC; Marcus Akhtar, Board Chair, Project Service, LLC; Karen Talamelli Cusick, Treasurer of Project Service LLC; Post 143 Commander Ron Drew and Past Commander Tom Quinn; and Post 74 Adjutant Len Schroeder.
Fairfield First Selectman Mike Tetreau said, “What a wonderful holiday gift for our veterans! These local heroes do an inordinate amount of good for our community year-round. From organizing Memorial Day and Veteran’s Day programs and events for our community, including our students, to assisting fellow veterans and veteran causes, holding toy drives and so much more, Fairfield’s veterans are most deserving of this very generous donation from Project Service LLC which the Town is very thankful to.”
