Fairfield Fire Dept. Responds to Multiple Incidents Wed. May 30

FAIRFIELD, CT - Wednesday, May 30 proved to be a very busy day for the Fairfield Fire Department.

At 12:52PM, the Fairfield Emergency Communications Center received a call reporting a structure fire at 258 Toilsome Hill Road. Fairfield Fire Department Engines 3, 2, 1, 5 and 4, Rescue 1 Ladder 2, and Car 3 responded and arrived on scene at approximately 12:56 PM to report smoke showing from the ridge and gable ends of the roof line. Engines 3 and 2 quickly deployed hand lines to the interior of the structure and advanced to the attic area where a substantial amount of fire was reported. Crews worked multiple hose lines to extinguish the fire as Ladder 2 and Rescue 1 ventilated the smoke by clearing a number of windows in the attic from the exterior of the structure. All occupants of the residence had evacuated prior to Fire Department arrival. There were no reported injuries. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Fire Marshal’s office. Last unit left the scene at approximately 3:08PM.

At 6:22PM, the Fairfield Emergency Communications Center received a call reporting a structure fire at 575 Winnepoge Drive. Fairfield Fire Department Engines 2, 3, 5 and 1, Rescue 1 Ladder 2, and Car 3 responded and arrived on scene at approximately 6:28 PM to report smoke showing from the chimney. Engine 2 advanced to the basement of the structure to find a runaway boiler due to an electrical malfunction. Engine 2 secured the boiler and ventilated the basement. All residents had evacuated the structure prior to Fire Department arrival. There were no reported injuries. Heating technicians were on scene investigating the reason for the electrical issue. The last Fire Department unit left the scene at approximately 7:41PM.

At 7:17PM, the Fairfield Emergency Communications Center received a call reporting a motor vehicle accident on the Merritt Parkway Southbound between exits 44 and 42. Multiple reports were received by the FECC that the vehicles were on fire and it was unknown if the occupants had exited. Fairfield Fire Department Engine 5, Ladder 2, Rescue 1 and Car 3 responded and arrived on scene at approximately 7:24PM to report a two-car accident with both vehicles on fire. All occupants were accounted for and uninjured. Fairfield Engine 3 was called to the scene for additional water and manpower. Connecticut State Police closed both lanes of the southbound side of the Parkway for the duration of fire operations. American Medical Response responded to evaluate the vehicle operator for injuries. The cause of the accident was under investigation by the CSP. The last fire unit left the scene at approximately 8:17PM.
