Fairfield Townwide Survey to Determine Needs of People with Disabilities

Fairfield, CT - Ms. Terry Giegengack, Director of Fairfield’s Department of Human Services, announced that Fairfield’s Human Services Commission is encouraging the public to take a Town-Wide Survey to better determine the needs of people with disabilities. Participation is important, as it will be crucial to the establishment of a Disabilities Task Force by the Human Services Commission.

The nine-question survey takes only a few minutes to complete. There are several ways to complete the survey which is due Thursday, June 21, 2018:

• An online Survey (Monkey) is available on the Human Services Department’s webpage by clicking here, https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/DisabilitySurvey2018.

• Hardcopies of the Survey are available by mail upon request by calling the Human Services Department at 203-256-3166. • The public may also obtain survey copies at the Front Desk at the Bigelow Center for Senior Activities at 100 Mona Terrace in Fairfield between the hours of 9 am to 4 pm, Monday through Friday.

The idea for this community survey came about after a Community Stakeholders meeting was held in April at the Bigelow Center for Senior Activities that included Fairfield public schools and community service providers, along with individuals with disabilities and their families who participated in an information exchange. Guest speakers presented information from the Disability Rights of Connecticut and the Westport Commission for People with Disabilities. One of the goals of the soon-to-be established Disabilities Task Force will be a review of resources to identify opportunities that can support individuals with disabilities.

Ms. Giegengack stated, “The Town seeks to ensure that Fairfield is a welcoming community where individuals with disabilities can lead active and fulfilling lives. I would like to offer my special thanks to the Human Services Commission and the Department of Community and Economic Development for its generous support with the survey.”
