BBB Serving Connecticut Issues Warning About Stratford, CT Day Spa

CROMWELL, CT — Since May 2018, Better Business Bureau Serving Connecticut (BBB) has received 10 complaints about the Stratford business Danielle Marie Day Spa after prepaid customers claimed they were not able to schedule appointments.

Several consumers alleged that they had purchased a package of six laser hair removal treatments from the popular site Groupon but were unable to schedule appointments with Danielle Marie Day Spa after redeeming the first one.

Consumers claimed they repeatedly called, texted and left voicemails to schedule appointments but communication was rarely returned. In turn, customers lost their money and never received the services that they had already paid for.

In addition, when requests for refunds were made, the company refused stating the business policy of no refunds.

BBB has also received complaints claiming that when appointments are made and confirmed, consumers arrive to the business only to find the lights off, doors locked and are unable to get in contact with the owner.

On Sept. 13, BBB was informed that Danielle Marie Day Spa was operating under the new name of Viva La Medical Spa and is continuing to sell packages online. BBB considers both business names as the same entity since Viva La Medical Spa used both names on their website and provided the same phone number.

On Sept. 21, BBB accreditation for Danielle Marie Day Spa was revoked by BBB's Board of Directors due to its failure to adhere to the BBB requirement that Accredited Businesses must make a good faith effort to resolve disputes.

Seven out of the 11 complaints submitted to the business have been left unanswered or unresolved.

According to the Connecticut Medical Examining Board, a licensed medical professional with appropriate knowledge, experience and training should assess each patient prior to and during the course of hair removal treatment with laser therapy. If other persons are operating the laser, the medical professional shall provide direct on-site supervision in the course of hair removal treatment.

Many consumers have claimed that the owner performed the procedure and they never met or saw another employee during the appointment. Danielle Donfrancesco, owner, may not carry the appropriate license to be solely performing laser hair removal treatments without being supervised by a licensed medical professional. Consumers are advised to ask to see a copy of her license.

Danielle Marie Day Spa has an F rating from Better Business Bureau.
