Fairfield Creates Senior Social Services Outreach Worker Project

Fairfield, CT - The Town of Fairfield's Director of Human and Social Services, Julie DeMarco, has announced the formation of the Senior Social Services Outreach Worker Project, made possible by the HUD Community Neighborhood Development Block Grant through Fairfield's Economic Development office.

The Social Services Outreach Worker, Heather Neary, BSW, will use her professional experience to engage older adults in Fairfield who may be in need of services with Fairfield Social Services and other community supports. The goal is to connect seniors with existing community resources to enhance their independence and quality of life.

"We recognize that many seniors who are alert and oriented live alone," according to Ms. DeMarco. "These seniors may not be inclined to attend the senior center but are capable of enjoying social interactions. Due to their age and loss of family and friends living nearby, these seniors represent unmet needs in our community for services."

The Outreach worker will work with existing community partnerships with faith-based organizations; town departments, including the Health Department, Community and Economic Development, Tax Assessor, Veterans services; and the other local organizations, to provide support to individuals who may be at risk for cognitive and physical decline due to social isolation.

Please contact the Social Services Department at 203 256-3170 for more information or to make a referral.
