FAIRFIELD, CT – In an effort to educate community members about early possible warning signs of drug abuse and or misuse among teenagers and children, the RX Abuse Leadership Initiative Community Awareness Readiness Engagement Service (RALI CARES) along with Code 3 Association will bring their educational trailer to the Town of Fairfield.
This event will take place on August 22 from 11:30am – 2:30pm at the Sherman Green and is open to the public free of charge. The trailer allows attendees to walk through a mock teenage bedroom to look for possible warning signs of drug abuse or use. Experts will be available to answer any questions, talk about potential areas of concern, and discuss how to talk to children. The trailer is for adults over the age of 21.
RALI supports community programs and solutions to combat the ongoing opioid epidemic. Drug abuse often begins at a young age. According to the Connecticut State Department of Public Health, 11% of high school students have taken prescription drugs like OxyContin, Percocet, Vicodin, Adderall, etc. without a doctor’s prescription in order to get high one or more times in their lifetime. Teenagers may abuse prescription drugs because they feel it may help them with their schoolwork, stop physical or mental pain, to look for acceptance amongst their peers, or in order to boost their self-confidence.
Learning about the warning signs of drug abuse is a great way to become educated and aware. This may help someone who is battling addiction and prevent potential opioid related overdose deaths. Whether you are a parent, teacher, community member, or anyone that would like to learn please join us.
