Fairfield CERT Announces Basic Training Dates

Fairfield, CT - The Fairfield Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) announces the 2020 CERT Basic Training dates. This training educates volunteers about disaster preparedness for the hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills thus increasing individual and town readiness. Once trained, volunteers are invited to join the Fairfield CERT team and continue to train with the team regularly.

CERT Basic Training starts Saturday, March 7th and will run each Saturday through April 4th from 8 am until 2 pm. Training is free and consists of topics such as disaster preparedness, terrorism, disaster medical operations, light search and rescue, disaster psychology, fire safety, and sheltering. CERT offers a consistent, nationwide approach to volunteer training and organization that professional responders can rely on during disaster situations, allowing them to focus on more complex tasks.

Online registration is available through the Fairfield Parks and Recreation website beginning January 22, 2020. Spaces are limited and students must be at least 18 years of age.

During Super Storm Sandy, Fairfield CERT was activated and played a major role in managing and operating the municipal shelter at Ludlow High School, and shelter operations continue to be a major part of the mission and training for the team. Other team activations commonly include traffic and pedestrian control for town events such as Fairfield Half-Marathon and the Fourth of July Celebration, and providing mutual aid to other towns as needed.
