Educational Webinar Launched in Response to Fentanyl Death of Middle Schooler

Fairfield, CT - In response to this week's tragic fentanyl death of a Hartford Middle Schooler, the Governor's Prevention Partnership convened a webinar with the title "Prevention is YOU: "Talking To Young People About Fentanyl, THC, and Other Substances". Please click here or on the image to view a recording and here to download the presentation slides.

This training will also be offered in Spanish on January 25 at 6:00 p.m. - register here to attend. A related upcoming webinar "Current Trends in Youth Substance Use" offers the opportunity to learn how to spot the warning signs. There will be two sessions, on January 26 at 9:30 a.m. and on January 27 at 5:30 p.m. See a copy of the flyer below.

In addition to sharing Naloxone Training information for our Regional Behavioral Health Action Organization, The Hub, a program of RYASAP under the leadership of Giovanna Mozzo, The Partnership has created a packet of tips for talking to young people about substance use, how to deal with current events, and information on how to keep young people safe. Click here to download the packet with:
  • Tips For Talking To Youth About Substance Use
  • Fentanyl Tip Sheet
  • Cannabis Tip Sheet
  • Opioid Resource Links
  • Talking to Young People About Current Events

Other resources mentioned during the webinar include Fairfield CARES' "Talking Tips for Every Age" and SAMHSA’s "Talk. They Hear You" campaign. There are many others listed in the presentation. Get Smart About Drugs recently published "Growing Up Drug Free: A Parent's Guide to Substance Use Prevention (2021)", and "21 For A Reason" includes excellent tips for the prevention of youth drinking, vaping/smoking, cannabis and gambling. "You Think You Know" is a new public awareness campaign targeting teens, young adults and caregivers to educate them about the dangers of counterfeit prescription drugs. We encourage everyone to add NORASaves to their handheld's home-screen.
