Greenwich United Way to Celebrate 90th Anniversary

The quinquennial gala will honor Greenwich visionaries Karen Keegan and Ken Mifflin.

GREENWICH, Conn., September 28, 2023 – The Greenwich United Way will toast to the Golden Age of Hollywood at the organization’s 90th Celebration Gala on Saturday, October 14, 2023, at Greenwich Country Club. It is a party so grand, it only happens every five years! The Greenwich United Way will honor Greenwich visionaries Karen Keegan and Ken Mifflin. Each has worked tirelessly to benefit so many of Greenwich's most beloved and essential nonprofits and were key in shaping the Greenwich United Way into the organization it is today. The event is co-chaired by Grace Lockhart Djuranovic and Emily Wolowitz with honorary chairs Cricket and Jim Lockhart and Allison and Steve Wolowitz.

Established in 1933 as the Greenwich Community Chest, the Greenwich United Way has since developed critical programs relied on by thousands of town residents. In 1939, GUW established the Greenwich Center for Child and Family Services (now Family Centers); in 1946 the Greenwich Housing Authority was launched, leading to the development of the Wilbur Peck Apartment Project in 1953 and the Quarry Knolls Housing Project in 1960; in 1951, GUW launched what is now known as Abilis. The GUW first conducted its Assessment of Human Services Needs for Greenwich in 1981 to help uncover the unmet needs in town. Since then, the assessment has been done every five years, ensuring that the necessary research and funds go to addressing the issues impacting the most residents. A full timeline of the human service programs, agencies, local research, publications and community projects that the Greenwich United Way has been instrumental in creating can be found herehttp://bit.ly/3sQz39j

“Because in large part of the Greenwich United Way and its 90 years of service, Greenwich is an exceptional place to live and raise a family,” said David Rabin, CEO of GUW. “Every year thousands of Greenwich residents rely on our programs and partner agencies, and every year we expand our reach to help more of those in town who need help. The ability to positively impact the lives of everyone in town is worth celebrating.”

Gala sponsors include Shreve, Crump and Low, Greenwich Hospital, Deutsch Family Wine & Spirits, Starr Films, and Greenwich Pediatric Dental Group. To support, sponsor or attend the gala on October 14, visit https://e.givesmart.com/events/wD4/
