Why Small Businesses Matter
Shop small, do big things for your community
Why Small Businesses Matter puts a spotlight on the local merchants who donate their time, talent, goods, and services for the betterment of our community. The shop local movement spreads virally as local businesses who are “tagged” have the opportunity to share their story!
You're IT Sailhart!
Three questions with John Hartigan, founder of Sailhart.
Why did you start your business?
My room used to be a mess. My drawers were full of old textbooks, clothes, electronics, etc. I had always wanted to throw out this stuff but had never worked up the courage to do it. These items seemed too valuable so I couldn’t bear the thought of throwing them away. Then, one day I realized that I could sell these items online to make some money. I looked for a service that would sell my stuff online but wasn’t able to find one.
Thus, I decided to research how to sell stuff online. After selling my things, others asked if I could do the same for them. I agreed to help them and shortly after decided to make this a business. This is why I created Sailhart LLC, a business that makes it simple for people to sell their stuff by picking up their items and selling it for them.
Finish this sentence in regard to your business. "I wish I could…"
I wish I could help make the world a better place. Sailhart intends to do this in three ways. First, we hope to reduce waste by selling people’s used items. Second, we hope to help people make more money by giving 85% of the profit back to the customers. Lastly, we hope to raise money for cancer research by donating at least 5% of the profit to cancer research. By doing these three things we hope to help make the world a better place.
What is your best selling product/service?
Some of the most popular things we sell for people are textbooks and electronics. However, we sell all sorts of items for people. If a customer has something to sell, it’s our job to determine the best way to sell it.
John would like to nominate Sherry Hartigan's local dog walking business in Greenwich to be promoted next!
