Putnam Service Dogs Host First Annual "Day in the Park" Honoring Rescue and Mixed Breed Dogs this Saturday at FDR Park in Yorktown
Putnam Service Dogs is hosting a mission driven event; their 1st Annual Day in the Park, Saturday, September 16th, 9am-2pm at FDR State Park in Yorktown Heights. The event honors Rescue/Mixed Breed Dogs, and will honor and promote the nurturing bond between humans and dogs - one of the two sentences in our Mission Statement. Putnam Service Dogs adopts and trains carefully selected rescue/mixed breed dogs to be their Service Dogs to be provided FREE to their recipients with follow-up training.

9-11am Adoption Fair of Rescue dogs from 3 Rescue Group Partners
11-12p ‘Strut Your Pup Parade’ where people will parade with their 4 legged best friend. $30pp/$20per child, includes Putnam Service Dogs t-shirt. Register online here.
12-1:30 lunch and ice cream from 5 star Food Trucks, and Games for Dogs and People led by Putnam Service Dogs Master Gamesters.
From 9-11am, three Rescue Groups partners of Putnam Service Dogs, North Shore Animal League of America (NSALA), Ridgefield Operation for Animal Rescue (ROAR), and Happy Life Animal Rescue will be adopting out dogs. Prospective adopters are strongly encouraged to visit the organizations’ websites before the event to fulfill their pre-adoption requirements.
Staff from Putnam Service Dogs will be at the park gates starting at 6:30am (park gates open at 8) to organize the waiting list for the 9-11am adoption event. Once the Park gates open at 8am, Road Grub Mobile, a 5 Star rated Food Truck, will be parked nearby, offering coffee and food to hungry adopters.
For those whose best friend/roommate is a mixed breed rescue dog, there is a Strut Your Pup Parade, 11am-12pm. The parade route is ¾ of a mile, and will be led by Putnam Service Dogs’ 3 pups in training. The Parade fee is $30 for adults, $20 for kids, and includes an event tee shirt, and bottled water. Registration beforehand on our website, putnamservicedogs.org, is encouraged, but can be done at the event 10am-11am. Longford’s Ice Cream Truck, a 5* rated Food Truck, will be nearby, along with Road Grub Mobile, for hungry Paraders. All dogs must be leashed, kid and dog friendly.
After the Strut Your Pup Parade, there’s lunch and ice cream, and games for dogs and people. Rachael Beuchler, Putnam Service Dogs’ Head Trainer, will be leading fun games for dogs and their best human friend. There will also be fun games for humans, led by Game Master, John Schlick, a Putnam Service Dogs’ Board Member.
