Students learned about the value of making choices to maintain physical, emotional and mental health during Wellness Days at Harrison Avenue, Parsons, Preston and Purchase Elementary Schools this fall. Wellness Learning is designed to engage the entire school community and to teach and highlight healthy habits that are the building blocks for success.
Each elementary school introduced students to a variety of activities that modeled the value of adopting a healthy lifestyle, being safe, and making wellness a part of everyday life. Parents, teachers, community members and students from Harrison High School shared how they maintain a healthy lifestyle – by leading sessions in dance, walking, jogging, tae kwon do, yoga, team sports and meditation.
Students ate healthy snacks and learned that what we eat fuels the mind and body and discovered some new, healthy snacks that also are delicious!
According to Assistant Director of Health and Athletics, Thomas Lehman, “Learning about wellness and a healthy lifestyle is aligned with the district’s health and physical education curriculum. We include wellness instruction into our Physical Education lessons throughout the year.”
