It's been a successful first half of 2017 for Tompkins Excavating, which was recently awarded the title of 2017 Business of the Year from the Hudson Valley Gateway Chamber of Commerce, and was granted WBENC certification by the Women Presidents' Educational Organization NY Certification Committee.
The Chamber of Commerce welcomed 250 guests to celebrate the accomplishments of the company they believed had developed and grown into a thriving business, making them the 2017 Business of the Year. The nominees were evaluated on 3 basic principles: growth in business volume, innovativeness of product or service provided, and evidence of contribution and commitment to the community.
In its 30 years, Tompkins Excavating has gone from a lawn mowing service provider to a full-service residential and commercial excavation company, and has expanded into real estate development with its sister company, West Shore Enterprises, building 35 houses in the Peekskill area. Since opening its doors, Tompkins Excavating has been committed to meeting the needs of its clients, company and community.
In the 5 years since Stacey Tompkins became the President and Owner alongside Secretary and husband Mark, business has tripled in volume and the company’s attention to serving others has continued to develop alongside it. Their focus on promoting family tradition and values in business was demonstrated when Stacey Tompkins instituted a continuing education program for the Tompkins Excavating team. Outside of the office, she has volunteered for and been honored by numerous organizations, including Community Cares of Mahopac, Support Connection, and Habitat for Humanity of Putnam. She’s served on the Executive Committee of the Putnam Valley PTA for 8 years, supported the Putnam Valley Education Foundation for the past 16 years, and has continued her work with the Hudson Valley Gateway Chamber to enable other local businesses to thrive. These efforts have not gone unnoticed, as both Stacey and the company have received awards and acknowledgments in recent years from the Putnam County Chambers of Commerce, the Town of Putnam Valley, Habitat for Humanity of Putnam County, and Westfair Communications. Throughout, they've maintained the respect of their clients, who have referred to the team as "landsculpters" for their high-quality craftsmanship and focus on unique solution and teamwork.
"Tompkins Excavating exemplifies everything this award is about“ said Debbie Milone, Executive Director of the HV Gateway Chamber of Commerce. “Their evolution as a company, their business values, and their commitment to their community. We were honored to honor them. Congratulations to Stacey, Mark and their sons on defining everything a local, family business should be."
“We are humbled and honored to be awarded Business Of The Year by the Hudson Valley Gateway Chamber. We want to thank our team members and our loyal clients for helping us make this possible,” Stacey Tompkins said.
In addition to being recognized as Business of the Year, Tompkins Excavating recently received WBENC Women's Business Enterprise (WBE) Certification from the Women Presidents’ Educational Organization (WPEO) NY Certification Committee. WBENC certification is the most widely recognized and respected national certification for Women’s Business Enterprises. Upon acquiring WBENC certification, business owners receive assistance from the WPEO to ensure their business is benefited, and are given access to a national database of top corporations with supplier diversity programs for sourcing certified WBEs.
