Taste of Harrison Draws Crowds To Support Harrison Public Library

Hundreds of library devotees gathered on Sunday, June 10, to enjoy delectable fare served by over 30 restaurants in downtown Harrison and to raise funds for the Harrison Public Library. The day was slightly overcast, but the crowd’s mood was decidedly sunny.

“The Taste of Harrison was great today,” said Harrison resident Mike Levine. “Perfect weather and so much good food. A big thank you to everyone who participated and raised money for our library!”

Restaurateur Ashley Lurie, operator of the Tannery, said, “Thank you to everyone who came out and tried our offerings for Taste of Harrison! We had a great time meeting our community and hope that everyone enjoyed!”

This was the fifth time the event has been held in the town. It was produced by the Harrison Public Library Foundation (HPLF), which raises funds to support enhanced library programs as well as various capital improvements. HPLF President Dave Donelson reported that this year’s Taste of Harrison was the largest yet, producing a 13% increase in donations from library supporters who purchased wristbands and raffle tickets as well as local businesses. “We particularly thank Willow Ridge Country Club,” Donelson said, “for not only underwriting Taste of Harrison financially but for serving delicious fare as well.”

Dozens of volunteers worked for months to make the event possible, meeting with restaurants in advance, selling wristbands, and setting up signs and balloons outside participating establishments to direct patrons to the food.

“We are so grateful for the community’s support for our library,” said Library Director Galina Chernykh. “The money donated through Taste of Harrison pays for things like our popular children’s programs to museum passes and hit movie screenings. The Harrison Public Library Foundation helps make our library a vibrant center of the community.”
