Extra Halloween Candy?

Of course, Halloween is a time of goblins and ghouls, tricks and treats, pumpkins and pirates. But it is also a holiday wrought with candy – sugars and chocolates, but also cavities. Yes, one should definitely enjoy his Halloween candy, but, as with all things in life, do so in moderation. Donate your excess candy to a great cause, rather than keeping it and gnawing on it days, and even weeks, later.

Fear not, Hamlet Hub readers – there is already a program in place to allay this temptation: the Halloween Candy Buy Back (HCBB) Program. This organization, founded in 2005 by a Wisconsin dentist, sends care packages through Operation Gratitude to the U.S. military overseas. To date, the program has collected over 130 tons of candy!

The following Hartford-area dentists’ offices are participators in this great program. For every pound of candy donated to one of the below locations, the participating dentists will reimburse you with $1. One could otherwise send candy in himself (instructions are available on the HCBB website).

Halloween candy will be collected from now until November 15, so there still is time to make a few dollars off of an enriching cause. Support your troops and your teeth!
