Legacy of Leadership Luncheon Celebrates 110 Years of Girl Scouts

Girl Scouts of Connecticut (GSOFCT) invites everyone to celebrate 110 years of Girl Scouts by recognizing remarkable women at its Annual Legacy of Leadership Luncheon. The honorees exemplify Girl Scout values as leaders in their community and workplace who pave the way for all girls to thrive. In addition, GSOFCT presents the “Courage, Confidence, Character Award” to an outstanding individual who is making the world a better place by exhibiting these attributes and living the Girl Scout mission. The fundraising event will take place on Wednesday, June 8, 2022 at 11 am at the Woodway Country Club in Darien, Connecticut.

“What better way to mark our amazing 110th milestone than to spotlight these women who represent what Girl Scouts is all about—leading with compassion and making sustainable change in our communities,” said Diana Mahoney, Chief Executive Officer of Girl Scouts of Connecticut (GSOFCT). “We look forward to joining together to pay tribute to all of the women who are making a difference and inspiring the next generation of female leaders.”

This year’s honorees are:

Judy Frey - Deeply committed to the mission of Girl Scouting, Judy’s legacy with GSOFCT spans over 30+ years. After serving as a troop leader for her daughter’s troop, Judy subsequently held several volunteer leadership roles, including as Board Chair of GSOFCT’s Southwestern Council. Judy has made significant contributions of her time and resources and is a member of the distinguished Juliette Gordon Lowe Society.

Polly O’Brien Morrow - A dedicated changemaker and corporate philanthropic leader, Polly currently serves as Senior Program Manager, Global Corporate Citizenship & Philanthropy for Pitney Bowes Inc, Vice President of the Pitney Bowes Foundation, and also Vice President of the Pitney Bowes Relief Fund. Polly’s passion for community was nurtured by her parents and through her own enriching experience as a Girl Scout and Troop Leader. Polly has dedicated her 35+ year career to being the consummate changemaker of tomorrow.

2022 Courage, Confidence, Character Award Recipient:

Jennifer Hubbard - President and Executive Director of the Catherine Violet Hubbard Animal Sanctuary. The sanctuary honors the memory of her six-year-old daughter, Catherine, a kind and compassionate animal lover who lost her life at Sandy Hook Elementary school on December 14, 2012. To continue her daughter’s crusade of compassion, the Catherine Violet Hubbard Animal Sanctuary was created – a place where all creatures will know they are safe and people are kind. Jennifer served as a Girl Scout Daisy Troop Leader for Sandy Hook Elementary School. The troop included Catherine as well as several girls whose lives were also lost. GSOFCT honors Jennifer for the courage, confidence, and character she exhibits to forge ahead through unfathomable grief creating a place of healing for her family and their community while fulfilling her daughter’s dream.

The luncheon includes a silent auction and program. Guests will also have the opportunity to meet local Gold Award Girl Scouts and learn about their projects. Tickets are $100 or $1000 for a table of 10.

All proceeds from the Legacy of Leadership Luncheon fundraiser go directly towards Girl Scouts of Connecticut’s mission to build girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place. There is still a variety of sponsorship opportunities available for this high-profile event. Supporters can also donate auction items and purchase tribute journal ads.
