CT Home Care Co. Offers Employees Shot at $1000 Cash to Get the Vax

One of the top home care agencies in Connecticut is giving employees a cash incentive to get the COVID-19 vaccine. Assisted Living Services, Inc. (ALS) in Cheshire, Fairfield and Clinton has launched the Vaccination Heroes program that will award $1000 to five vaccinated staff members selected in a random drawing on October 12, 2021.

To be eligible to win, caregivers simply need to receive their first and second dose of the Pfizer or Moderna COVID-19 vaccinations, or the single Johnson & Johnson shot, any time between August 18 and October 12, 2021. To make the process even easier, ALS is offering employees assistance to find the nearest location administering vaccinations.

“Our industry does not have a mandate for vaccinations, however, we strongly encourage and promote vaccinations for all of our staff members,” said Mario D’Aquila, MBA and Chief Operating Officer of ALS. “We do require that all aides wear a mask when providing personal care and/or are within 6 feet of their clients or family members.”

D’Aquila explains the State of Connecticut is mandating workers at all skilled nursing, assisted living and communities to receive their first vaccine by September 7, 2021 in order to work those buildings and settings. ALS does employ aides who provide care to clients that reside in assisted living communities or other congregate settings, so those caregivers are adhering to all guidelines.

“This is not a gimmick. We're serious about our employees' health and we have confidence in vaccines,” said D’Aquila. “The core of our mission is to provide exceptional care for clients, so naturally we care for our employees the same way.”

D’Aquila notes this is the second incentive program created as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. From February to May 2020, the monthly ALS $5,000 Platinum Caregiver Award program was retooled as the Homecare Hero Award in order to recognize more outstanding employees. Twenty caregivers were awarded with $1,000, along with a

The family-owned homecare agency prides itself as a leader in employee initiatives that demonstrate how much they truly value each team member. For more than two decades, ALS has paid tens of thousands of dollars each year to incentivize employees for superior performance or perfect attendance. In fact, ALS has garnered several high-profile national awards for these bonus programs, including Home Care Pulse Employer of Choice and outstanding national workplace by the Great Place to Work Institute.

Incentives and genuine appreciation for staff members are just a few of the reasons that ALS has a high employee retention rate with some employees still working for the agency for nearly two decades.

ALS employs more than 250 caregivers across the state, all of whom are insured, bonded, and supervised. D’Aquila notes the company is actively hiring as the demand for at-home care continues to grow.
