Book Discussion on Recreational Marijuana Industry via Zoom

The Simsbury-based nonprofit, A Promise to Jordan, is inviting the public to a virtual event to discuss the book, “Smoke Screen:  What the Marijuana Industry Doesn’t Want You to Know”, by Kevin A. Sabet, Ph.D. The discussion will be held on Wednesday, October 13, 2021, from 6:00 to 8:00 P. M. via Zoom.

Kevin Sabet is the President and CEO of SAM, (Smart Approaches to Marijuana), a nonprofit organization he founded along with Congressman Patrick Kennedy and David Frum, currently Senior Editor at The Atlantic.  Sabet is also a drug policy advisor to three U. S. Presidential administrations, and has studied, researched, written about, and implemented drug policy for over 25 years.

“This is an important book to read as Connecticut begins to grapple with the consequences of its recent legalization of recreational marijuana,” notes Lisa Gray, Founder and Executive Director of A Promise to Jordan.
Gray went on to state, “I think people will be surprised to learn that this is not an ‘anti-marijuana’ book, but rather an eye-opening and thorough examination of the fallout that has already been experienced and documented in other states due to an industry that is placing the importance of profits over that of public health.”

Free copies of the book are available by contacting A Promise to Jordan at (860) 390-1391 or info@apromisetojordan.org.

A Promise to Jordan is named in honor of Jordan Arakelian, a Simsbury resident who died of a heroin and fentanyl overdose on June 30, 2018 at the age of 24.  His mother, Lisa Gray, started the 501c3 organization in his memory to raise awareness and eliminate the stigma of addiction, assist people in accessing quality care, and give hope that recovery is possible to those struggling with addiction. Jordan started using recreational marijuana at the age of 15.  For more information on this event or A Promise to Jordan, visit www.apromisetojordan.org.
