Hartford Caregiver Named “Vaccination Hero”, Earns $1,000 Bonus from Employer

Assisted Living Services, Inc. Announces Winners Of Companywide Program

When Hartford resident Nadine Simms joined the caregiving staff at Assisted Living Services, Inc. ALS) nearly two years ago, the reward of helping Connecticut’s elderly age safely in the comfort of their own homes was enough gratification. Now, Simms is even more ecstatic about her employment site as she has been awarded a $1,000 bonus for participating in the company’s Vaccination Heroes program.  Specifically, the Cheshire and Westport-based home care agency offered all employees the generous cash incentive to get their COVID-19 vaccine and recently selected five $1,000 winners from a random drawing.

“It takes a lot of patience and humility to work within the homecare industry,” said Simms.  “Although I do not expect thanks for performing my daily activities of dressing, feeding and bathing my clients, it is very fulfilling when I am recognized for my effort in going beyond the call of duty and doing the right thing.”

ALS created the Vaccination Heroes program last summer as a way to encourage its employees to remain healthy during the ongoing pandemic.  Employees receiving their first and second dose of the Pfizer or Moderna COVID-19 vaccinations, or the single Johnson & Johnson shot, any time between August 18 and October 12, 2021 were automatically entered into a raffle.

“Our industry does not have a mandate for vaccinations, however, we strongly encourage and promote vaccinations for all of our management team and staff members,” said Mario D’Aquila, MBA and Chief Operating Officer of ALS. “The core of our mission is to provide exceptional care for clients, so naturally we care for our employees the same way.”

D’Aquila notes that the company does require all of its aides to wear a mask when providing personal care and/or are within 6 feet of their clients or family members.

This is the second incentive program created as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. From February to May 2020, the monthly ALS $5,000 Platinum Caregiver Award program was retooled as the Homecare Hero Award in order to recognize more outstanding employees. Twenty caregivers were awarded with a $1,000 check, along with a

The family-owned homecare agency prides itself as a leader in employee initiatives that demonstrate how much they truly value each team member. For more than two decades, ALS has paid tens of thousands of dollars each year to incentivize employees for superior performance or perfect attendance. In fact, ALS has garnered several high-profile national awards for these bonus programs, including Home Care Pulse Employer of Choice and outstanding national workplace by the Great Place to Work Institute.

Incentives and genuine appreciation for staff members are just a few of the reasons that ALS has a high employee retention rate with some employees still working for the agency for nearly two decades.

All ALS caregivers across the state are insured, bonded, and supervised. The company is actively hiring as the demand for at-home care continues to grow.  Interested parties may apply at www.assistedlivingct.com.
