Senior Caregiver Wins $5,000 Award from Cheshire Employer

Putting others’ needs before our own is always a challenge, especially given the current health and economic issues of today; however, one Bristol resident makes it her passion to practice the golden rule every day of her life. Hannah Ofosu-Mensah, a senior caregiving employee at Assisted Living Services, Inc. (ALS), recently won the Platinum Caregiver Award for December, 2021 for going beyond the call of duty for her 82-year old client, Leona Martin.

The family-owned, statewide homecare agency with offices in Cheshire and Westport recently presented Ofosu-Mensah with a $5,000 check, certificate of recognition and crystal statue at Martin’s Bristol home.

“Hannah has been with our organization for nearly five years and is always willing to provide compassionate care mixed with humor and skill,” said Mario D’Aquila, Chief Operating Officer at ALS. “Her long track record with each senior client is proof enough that she was made for this line of work and we are lucky to have her on our team.”

D’Aquila was joined by ALS Director of Marketing and Hourly Services Lynne Talbot and ALS Hourly Manager Tina Carbone when they surprised Ofosu-Mensah with the accolade. Also present was Martin, with whom she has been connected for the past eight months.

To select the winning caregiver each month, ALS clients are called at random by Homecare Pulse, a third-party survey company that measures customer satisfaction. Clients or family members rate the services and quality of care that is being provided and have the opportunity to mention caregivers who supersede their expectations when caring for them or their loved one.

Ofosu-Mensah has been employed with ALS since August, 2017. Caring for seniors in their own homes is about striking that intuitive balance between being there for support, while providing enough space to enable them to go on enjoying their normal daily routines.

“In her initial interview, Hannah made it very clear that her calling is to help others in need. adds D’Aquila. “We’re honored to reward her for her passionate commitment and know that she will continue changing elderly lives for the better.”
