Red Cross Helps Two Hartford Families After House Fires

The American Red Cross is helping 27 people after six separate fires over the Thanksgiving Holiday period. The fires occurred in Naugatuck, Hartford, Trumbull, Westbrook, Waterbury and Bethel. 

The Red Cross is helping:

  • Two families – three adults - after a fire on November 21 on South Main Street, Naugatuck
  • Two families – two adults, one child - after a fire on November 21 on Pilny Street, Hartford
  • One family – two adults, two children – after a fire on November 21 on Placid Street, Trumbull
  • One family – two adults – after a fire on November 21 on E. Pond Meadow Road, Westbrook
  • Five families – 11 adults, one child – after a fire on November 23 on Waterville Street, Waterbury
  • One family - two adults, one child - after a fire on November 24 on Deer Run Road, Bethel

In each instance, the Red Cross provided assistance to meet the families’ immediate needs. Responders included: John Lennon, Steve Nobrega, Dan Bielefield, Nastia Karpoukhina,Tom Shugrue, Donna Denert, Larry Berman, Gabe Gillotti, Steve Thomas, Mark Smith, Bert Goff, Paula Marker, Mike Vincelli Susan Shaw, Courtney Huntington, Leo Moerkens and Mark Smith.

The Red Cross is also providing comfort kits containing personal care items such as toothbrushes, deodorant; shaving supplies and other items a resident might not have been able to gather in the rush to escape the fire. In addition, a recovery envelope containing information helpful to families recovering from a fire, including tips on cleanup; notification of important contacts; dealing with damaged items and more was provided. 

Red Cross caseworkers will connect with those affected in the coming days to work on a longer-term recovery plan. The Red Cross is able to provide assistance through the generosity of our donors and the commitment of our volunteers.
