A Rally to Save Connecticut Libraries is planned in Hartford on Wednesday, April 15th at Noon. All supporters of public libraries are invited to attend.
What’s at risk?
The Governor’s budget for FY16 proposes to eliminate funding for several programs that benefit local libraries.
What these proposed cuts mean to you:
- Elimination of your ability to borrow from libraries outside your city without paying a fee
- Significant reduction in library materials available to borrow
- Fewer library lectures and programs
- Slower internet speeds and a decrease in the number of public computers available
Scranton Memorial Library Director, Beth Crowley, is the incoming President of the Connecticut Library Association. Crowley, who testified in Hartford on March 3rd against this bill, says “The impact of these cuts in funding would be felt by all Madison residents. If the Governor’s proposed budget passes, we will either need to ask for additional money from our taxpayers or will be forced to cut services to them – or both!”
You can also help by sending letters and emails to our elected officials and the Governor’s Office. Please help restore State Library funding as it is ultimately a wise investment for Connecticut towns.
