The Governor’s Prevention Partnership (The Partnership) invites the public to attend the Annual Governor’s Luncheon, featuring Hartford Mayor Luke Bronin on Thursday, October 20th at 11:30 am at the Hartford Marriott Downtown. The luncheon thanks and celebrates those who have committed significant resources to Connecticut’s youth. Each year, the event draws more than 250 business and government leaders from across the state that support The Partnership's efforts to keep kids safe, successful, and drug-free today for a stronger workforce tomorrow.
The line-up of dynamic presenters begins with keynote speaker Michael D. Smith, a member of President Obama’s administration, Special Assistant to the President, and Senior Director of cabinet affairs for My Brother's Keeper at the White House. His work is focused on addressing the persistent opportunity gaps faced by boys and young men of color and will provide updates on ensuring that all young people can reach their full potential.
Speaker Jill Hummel, President of Anthem Blue Cross & Blue Shield, will describe the stellar year-long collaboration between Hartford Public Schools, The Partnership and Anthem BCBS that resulted in a substantial grant to fight student absenteeism. Anthem BCBS also funded the effort to provide Simpson Waverly School in Hartford with 10 AmeriCorps members as mentors who will improve attendance, a key indicator of academic success that reduces future drop-out rates.
Honored guest CT Supreme Court Justice Richard Robinson will share the role that mentors played in his life, and Connecticut corporate leaders and youths will explain how working together has impacted so many young lives.
Jill Spineti, President and CEO of The Governor’s Prevention Partnership, will outline the organization’s exciting expansion plans for youth mentoring programs:
- Overview of mentoring growth and strategies
- New vision and direction for the organization
- Why “better together” is critical for the future
Popular FOX-61 Anchor Tim Lammers, will serve as the emcee for the event.
The Partnership encourages the public, policy experts, legislators, youth advocates, grassroots providers, non-profit leaders and others who care about the future of our children to participate in the Governor’s Luncheon.
